Herrera, Van Benschoten Among First Cuts

The Post-Gazette has reported that Yoslan Herrera and John Van Benschoten were among the Pirates first cuts of Spring Training. Neither had impressed in limited duty. Herrera gaved up three earnies in one inning of work. Van Benschoten got just one out and surrendered three runs.
Also clipped were Bryan Bullington, Brad Lincoln, Michael Tejera, Kip Bouknight, Steve Lerud and David Parrish. Bullington had pitched pretty well, surrendering no runs or hits in two innings of work. Lincoln was on the shelf. Tejera didn’t appear in a game. Bouknight gave up one run in one inning in his only appearance. Lerud and Parrish, both catchers, each went hitless in limited action.
