Game #84 vs. Milwaukee; Happy Fourth of July!

PNC Park | 4:05 | Snell vs. Claudio Vargas | Box

Accept my apologies for cutting the post-game recap short.  It was a holiday, after all.
The Pirates won, 5-3, as Ian Snell threw eight strong innings and Adam LaRoche and Ryan Doumit went yard.

Pre-game Thoughts
Big & Rich are playing the Fourth of July post-game show. I hit you with the intro from their 2005 album, “Comin’ To Your City.”

Somebody’s got to be unafraid to lead the freak parade
To lead the freak, to lead the freak, to lead the freak parade.

On Sunday, Dejan wrote about the captains of this Pirate ship. They are the true leaders of this freak parade.
Ian Snell won’t be an All-Star, but his 2.90 ERA speaks for itself. He is slowly morphing into one of the elite pitchers in the National League. As I’ve said before, he’s our stopper. When we need a big win, I want him on the mound.
You may look at the standings and consider the Pirates to be out of contention. Doesn’t matter. A series win is a series win, and it’s all the more sweet when it comes against the division leader.
