Frank Kremblas Named Indianapolis’ Manager

The Pirates have announced that Frank Kremblas�has been hired to manage the AAA Indianapolis Indians. �Kremblas played for the Indians from 1993-96, when the team was part of the Cincinnati Reds’ organization. �He began managing in 1998, and has spent the last four seasons managing the AAA Nashville Sounds in the Brewers’ organizaton, and three seasons before that as manager of the Brewers’ AA Huntsville Stars. �Players in the Brewers’ system generally speak highly of Kremblas, and he was the Pacific Coast League’s Manager of the Year in 2007. �

Other managers were also named:
AA Altoona: Matt Walbeck, most recently the Texas Rangers’ third base coach.
A Lynchburg: PJ Forbes, most recently the manager of the Phillies’ AA Reading team.
A West Virginia: �Gary Green, who was managing at Hickory prior to the switch in affiliations.
A-SS State College: Gary Robinson, former head coach at UNC Charlotte, and former GCL Expos coach, and most recently a AAA umpire supervisor.
Rookie GCL: Tom Prince returns for his third season with Bradenton.

Doumit, McLouth and the broadcasting booth

Dejan reports that the Pirates are nearing a long-term deal with Ryan Doumit, while talks with Nate McLouth have slowed to the point that his agent referred to them as “close to dead.” I have mentioned before that I feel much more comfortable giving a multi-year contract to McLouth than Doumit, so I would have preferred this news to be reversed.
