I've always called it the Curse of Randy Marsh after the fill-in ump who wouldn't issue a called strike among 33 pitches in the 9th inning at Atlanta in '92. If the more qualified John Mcsherry doesn't become ill early in the game, the Pirates were in the series vs. Toronto.
Yes, I agree with the earlier comment that it's really bad management, but the curse has stood in the way of us getting a owner who wants to win, a qualified team President and a GM who can evaluate talent.

My son and I have already done our part to remove the curse of lead footed Sid Bream beating noodle arm Barry Bonds' throw and destroying our future. We burned a Sid Bream card then took it to the base of the Stargell statue at PNC and sprinkled the ashes around it. I failed to realize that it may possibly take a Bonds card burning and possibly a Francisco Cabrera card burning to complete the curse removal! I live in FL so I may not be able to get to PNC so maybe someone else can embrace this task and git r done!

This isn't a curse. This is Costanza running the team. A quote from George Costanza from the Seinfeld episode "The Opposite"

It all became very clear to me sitting out there today, that every decision I've ever made in my entire life has been wrong. My life is the complete opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have in every aspect of life, be it something to wear, something to eat... It's often wrong.

Starting (at least) with the draft in 1993 when Pittsburgh had three of the first 45 picks and six picks in the top 100 and turned that opportunity into - ta da! - Jermaine Allensworth, every thought that the (various) front office and coaching staff members have had with regard to amateur player talent and professional player development was 'often wrong.'
