Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/15/09

Indianapolis was off for their All-Star Break.


Altoona was off for their All-Star Break.


The Result: Lynchburg lost 8-4 to Potomac.

-Chase D’Arnaud went 0 for 4 with a run and a walk.

Other Game Notes: Lastings Milledge went 2 for 4 with two homers, three RBIs, and two runs. Jordy Mercer went 1 for 4 with his sixth homer of the year. Matt McSwain pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.


The Result: West Virginia lost 8-2 to Augusta.

-Robbie Grossman went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

-Tony Sanchez did not play.

-Starling Marte did not play.

Other Game Notes: Quincy Latimore went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. Latimore is hitting .302 in the month of July. Casey Erickson, acquired in the Eric Hinske trade, pitched two perfect innings, with four strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 1.96.


The Result: State College lost 10-4 to Tri-City.

Game Notes: Brock Holt went 2 for 4 with two runs. Evan Chambers went 1 for 4 with a run. Tyler Cox pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.


The Result: Bradenton beat the GCL Blue Jays 3-2.

-Wes Freeman went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

-Gift Ngoepe did not play.

-Ramon Cabrera went 1 for 3.

Other Game Notes: Rogelios Noris went 1 for 3 with a run. Noris is batting .310 on the season, with a .475 OBP in his first 29 at-bats for Bradenton. He hit for a .272/.366/.452 line with 7 homers in 217 AB in the VSL last year.


The Result: The VSL Pirates beat the VSL Cardinals 4-2.

-Jorge Bishop went 1 for 4 with a stolen base, his 22nd of the season.

-Exicardo Cayonez went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.

-Jonathan Barrios went 0 for 4.

Other Game Notes: David Pino went 1 for 4 with his 11th double of the season. Pino is hitting .295 with a .407 OBP in 156 AB this season.
