Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/20/09

The Prospect Tracker is updated with tonight’s games.


The Result: Indianapolis won 8-3 against Louisville.

-Jose Tabata went 1 for 4 with a double.

-Argenis Diaz went 0 for 3 with a walk.

-Daniel McCutchen pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with one walk and eight strikeouts to get his 13th win of the season. McCutchen has a 2.23 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and a 62:12 K/BB ratio in 87 innings since the start of June. In his last seven starts he has a 0.93 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and a 37:5 K/BB ratio in 46 innings. Those are some incredible numbers.

Other Game Notes: Jeff Clement went 0 for 4, dropping his Indy average to .267. Neil Walker went 2 for 4 with two doubles, raising his average to .259.


The Result: Altoona won 2-1 against Harrisburg in eight innings.

-Gorkys Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a two run homer.

-Pedro Alvarez went 0 for 3.

-Daniel Moskos pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits, with a walk and six strikeouts.

Other Game Notes: Moskos has a 2.60 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 19:15 K/BB ratio in his last six starts, spanning 34.2 innings. Take out his August 8th start, where he allowed five runs, four hits, and four walks in 2.2 innings, and he has a 1.41 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and an 18:11 K/BB ratio in 32 innings. Good ratios, although the strikeouts are a bit low.


The Result: Lynchburg won 4-3 against Salem.

-Chase d’Arnaud went 1 for 3 with two runs.

-Nathan Adcock pitched the first five innings of the game, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, with no walks and three strikeouts to improve to 3-0 with Lynchburg.

-Ronald Uviedo pitched the final four innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit, with two walks and three strikeouts for his second save of the season.

Other Game Notes: Alex Pressley went 2 for 5 with a homer. Jordy Mercer went 2 for 4.


The Result: West Virginia lost 7-3 to Asheville.

-Robbie Grossman did not play.

-Tony Sanchez went 0 for 3 with an RBI.

-Starling Marte went 1 for 3 with a double.

Other Game Notes: Kyle Morgan went 2 for 3. Hunter Strickland pitched five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits, with no walks and one strikeout. Casey Erickson pitched 1.1 perfect innings, with one strikeout.


The Result: State College lost 4-3 to Brooklyn.

Game Notes: Brock Holt went 3 for 4. Pat Irvine went 2 for 4. Jason Erickson pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three unearned runs on four hits, with a walk and four strikeouts. Nathan Baker pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk, with one strikeout.


The Result: Bradenton lost 5-0 to the GCL Yankees.

-Wes Freeman went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.

-Gift Ngoepe went 2 for 4.

-Ramon Cabrera went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Other Game Notes: Benji Gonzalez went 1 for 4. He now has a hit in eight of his last nine games.
