The Pittsburgh Pirates wrapped up their 2009 season today, and with the completion of their year, I have the estimated 2009 40-man payroll. Any salaries below that are not in bold font are the salaries I did not know. The main guys are Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones, and other players who were not on the 40-man roster to start the season. I just used the league minimum of $400 K for these players.
The Pirates’ ended up spending just under $48 M for the 2009 season, which is about $3 M less than what they spent on the 40-man roster in the 2008 season. Here is the breakdown:
