A few notes before I call it a night:
-Jennifer Langosch has some YouTube videos up of the Pirates’ Spring Training workouts, along with some information, including a tour of the DR facility. Good stuff there, so check it out.
-Bryce Harper went 1 for 3 tonight. Southern Nevada has three more games of tournament play this weekend before taking a short break. They return March 5th for the conference games, which means wooden bats will be used after this weekend. That will be a good thing to follow.
-Anthony Ranaudo and Drew Pomeranz are expected to make their 2010 debuts tomorrow as the division I season gets underway. Christian Colon is also starting his season tomorrow. I’ll have a post on the draft tomorrow afternoon.
-I posted earlier that ESPN’s Jorge Arangure reported the Pirates had signed Dominican outfielder Willy Garcia to a $280,000 bonus. According to Rob Biertempfel, Neal Huntington confirms that the Pirates are negotiating with Garcia, but a deal hasn’t been reached yet.
-Also in that link from Biertempfel, Jean Machi will undergo tests. The Pirates only described the tests as “follow up tests after his physical”. We learned that Joel Hanrahan will start the season on the disabled list, which opens a spot in the bullpen out of Spring Training. Machi is a sleeper to win one of the final bullpen jobs, so any serious injury from him would be an additional blow to the bullpen competition.
-I’ve finished the AA section of the BUCCO Fans Player Pages. I’m hoping to have high-A done by the end of the weekend. By the way, incase you’re wondering, the organizational level on the player’s page is my prediction as to where they will start the 2010 season. I did this to avoid a massive amount of changes once the season begins.
