According to Dejan Kovacevic, the Pittsburgh Pirates have sent Brian Burres down to Indianapolis, and have recalled infielder Argenis Diaz. Diaz was recalled due to the lingering injury to Andy LaRoche, which will keep him out of the lineup for another game, and because of a minor injury to Bobby Crosby. Without Diaz, the Pirates would have had a three man bench tonight, with one of those spots being the backup catcher.
Burres was extra in the bullpen, and just pitched an extended outing last night, so the chances of him being used in the next few days was slim. The Pirates will need a fifth starter by Saturday, at which point Diaz will probably be sent back down in favor of someone like Kevin Hart, Donald Veal, or Chris Jakubauskas.
