Pirates trade Virgil Vasquez to Rays for PTBNL

The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded Virgil Vasquez to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Trib.  Last night Dejan Kovacevic tweeted that the Pirates were in “very minor” trade talks with the Rays, and that the deal could include Vasquez.

Chances are the return on this deal will be minimal, and might even be cash considerations.  With Kevin Hart, Donald Veal, Chris Jakubauskas, Brad Lincoln, Jeff Karstens, and eventually Jimmy Barthmaier eligible to start at AAA, there was really no need to keep Vasquez around.
