You only draft for need if you have 2 players that you think are about equal and then need becomes tie breaker.

The hitting didn’t look ‘set’ in 2010. It was still poor. Not historically bad, but bad. Now they’re under 3 runs a game. That’s beyond bad, that’s attrocious.

unfortunately there are no bats that are for sure in the draft, this year it is going to take some real scouting to separate the talent. IMO, when a system is as stocked with pitching as the Pirates are, I am going to look offense, they still have to look at what the needs of the system are no matter what. They took Sanchez because they had no catching in the system, that is drafting for need, maby not need for the parent club, but need for the system.
