Game 58: Strasburg is THE MAN!!!

Published:

How many different ways can you say, ‘Good as advertised’? I want to leave postive feedback on ebay. Yep, it was ‘just the Pirates.’ But this was impressive.

Stephen Strasburg whiffed 14 in seven impressive innings. He allowed four hits, including a two run homer to Delwyn Young. It looked like for a while that Young’s dinger would hold up. Jeff Karstens allowed a solo jack to Ryan Zimmerman in the first. Young’s homer was in the fourth. Karstens got hung out to dry in the sixth. Zimmerman led off with a single. Adam Dunn followed with a homer to put the Nats up and Josh Willingham made it back-to-backs with solo homer.

That was enough for Strasburg who whiffed the final seven hitters he faced. He threw 94 pitches, 65 for strikes. Matt Capps tossed a perfect 9th for the save.

The Good
Well, no one was hit in the head by a fastball.

Ronny Cedeno has a two game hitting streak.

The Bad
Bucs whiffed a total of 17 times.

The Rest
Last time the Pirates struck out 17 times or more in a 9 inning game was 7/21/97 against Curt Schilling and Philadelphia. The Pirates, behind Esteban Loiaza, were victorious.

Every member of the starting 9 whiffed.

Dunn had his second three hit game of the month.

Any chance Brad Lincoln’s debut tomorrow will be as good?
