Top catching prospect Tony Sanchez was struck in the left cheek by a pitch today and was taken to a local hospital . An original CT scan showed no damage, but a second scan revealed what appears to be two small fractures in his cheek. The Pirates have not made any official announcement at this point.
UPDATE (6/23/2010, 6:50 PM): Sanchez will have surgery to repair two fractures in his jaw. He will be out indefinitely, and is expected to miss much of the season.
