Pirates put Ryan Doumit on the DL

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed catcher Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion, and have recalled catcher Jason Jaramillo from Indianapolis.  Doumit was injured yesterday in a collision at the plate.  The move pretty much guarantees that Doumit won’t be traded this season, as he will be on the disabled list when the July 31st trade deadline passes.

Jaramillo was hitting for a .164/.250/.239 line in 67 at-bats in the majors this year before being sent down to AAA to receive everyday playing time.  In his time at AAA, Jaramillo went 6-for-17 (.353) in five games.  Erik Kratz was brought up to serve as the backup catcher in Pittsburgh, and has gone 2-for-12 in three games, getting both hits in his debut.
