Pirates sign Logan Pevny

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 49th round pick Logan Pevny, a prep pitcher out of West Milford high school.  Pevny, a 6′ 3″, 190 pound right hander, had a commitment to Farleigh Dickinson University, although the dismissal of FDU’s head coach played an important role in Pevny signing with the Pirates.

Pevny had a 4.59 ERA in 32 innings, with 49 strikeouts.  His fastball regularly reaches the high-80s.  Pevny will report to Florida next week where he will likely start out in the Gulf Coast League.  Here is an interesting story about Pevny on draft day.  The draft pick signing tracker is updated with the move.  The Pirates have now signed 16 players.
