Pirates sign pitcher from Belarus

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Alex Lukashevich, a right handed pitcher out of Major League Baseball’s European Academy, according to Mister Baseball.  Lukashevich becomes the first player from Belarus to sign with a MLB organization.

The article above mentions that Lukashevich is already in Florida practicing, which means he could begin his career in Bradenton in the Gulf Coast League.  Lukashevich was named one of the top 50 European players in 2009, and was given a chance to train at the MLB European Academy.  Six teams in total were interested in him.
