According to Dejan Kovacevic, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed six international prospects out of the Dominican Republic, pending age and identity investigations. Those prospects are RHP Yunior Montero, LHP Cristian Hernandez, OF Miguel DeAza, SS Rodney Polonia, OF Yunior Valdez, and LHP Melvin Rosario.
DeAza was reported as signed back in May with a $150,000 bonus out of the Dominican Prospects League. Kovacevic reports that all six players are 16 years old, although DeAza was reported as being 17 by the DPL web site.
The deals may take awhile to become official, due to the time it takes to verify a prospect’s age and identity (although DeAza should go quicker, since the DPL is designed to avoid those issues). DK has scouting reports on each player on the PBC Blog link above.
