Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/1/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Indianapolis lost to Columbus 6-1.  Jeremy Powell pitched five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, with four walks and two strikeouts.  Chris Jakubauskas made a rehab appearance, allowing one run on four hits in 2.1 innings, with a walk and two strikeouts.  Daniel Moskos got the final two outs in the eighth inning, striking out two batters, but not before allowing one inherited runner to score.  Vinnie Chulk pitched a shutout inning, allowing just one walk.

Brian Myrow went 1-for-2 with a run, a stolen base, and two walks.  Brandon Moss, Akinori Iwamura, and Doug Bernier each went 1-for-4.  Those were the only Indians to record a hit.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Altoona beat Reading 7-1.  Tim Alderson pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.  Alderson also went 1-for-2 at the plate, with a two run homer in the second inning.  Derek Hankins pitched three shutout innings, allowing a walk and a hit, and striking out two.

Matt Hague went 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Hector Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBIs.  Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a run.  Josh Harrison went 2-for-5 with a run.  Brandon Jones went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)
Bradenton beat Charlotte 5-2.  Melkin Laureano went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, with a walk and four strikeouts.  Casey Erickson pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit, no walks, and striking out two.  Tyler Cox added a perfect inning.  Noah Krol pitched a shutout inning, allowing one walk.

Calvin Anderson went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.  Robbie Grossman went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs, and a stolen base.  Jose de los Santos went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, a walk, an RBI, and a stolen base.  James Skelton went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)
West Virginia beat Delmarva 8-3.  Nathan Baker pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Maurice Bankston pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.  Marc Baca pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Aaron Baker went 1-for-4 with a solo homer.  Jose Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.  Jesus Brito went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  David Rubinstein went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.  Evan Chambers went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run, an RBI, and a stolen base, which was his 20th of the season.  Ramon Cabrera went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)
State College beat Williamsport 8-3.  Kevin Decker pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.  Jhonatan Ramos pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out two.  Ramos has pitched nine shutout innings since being demoted to State College, and the hit allowed tonight was his first hit allowed.  He has an 8:1 K/BB ratio so far in those nine innings.  Jason Townsend made his debut, allowing one run on two hits in one inning, with no walks and a strikeout.

Adalberto Santos went 1-for-4 with a walk, two steals, and three runs scored.  Gerlis Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.  Walker Gourley went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs, and three RBIs.  Miguel Mendez went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)
The GCL Pirates lost 5-2 to the GCL Blue Jays.  Vincent Payne pitched two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Yerfi Taveras pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.  Joan Montero pitched two innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit, with a walk and two strikeouts.

Exicardo Cayonez went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Dylan Child went 1-for-4 with a run scored.  Kevin Mort went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  

VSL PIRATES (RK)
The VSL Pirates lost 4-3 to the VSL Phillies.  Roberto Espinoza pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.  Ericdavis Marquez pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits.  Remberto Romo pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a run on one hit.

Francisco Aponte went 1-for-4 with a stolen base, his 13th of the season.  Luis Cardona went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Jose Roman went 1-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI.
