Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/16/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Indianapolis lost to Rochester 6-5.  Brian Burres pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.  Wilfredo Ledezma pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit.  Jean Machi allowed one run on a hit in an inning of work.

Brandon Moss went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.  Brian Bixler went 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.  Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Brian Myrow went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Jeff Clement went 2-for-5.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Altoona beat Harrisburg 3-0.  Jeff Locke made his AA debut, pitching five shutout innings, allowing four hits, no walks, and striking out five.  Tony Watson pitched three shutout innings, allowing a walk and a hit, and striking out one.  Derek Hankins pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Chase d’Arnaud went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored.  Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI.  Josh Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)
Bradenton beat Clearwater 4-3.  Aaron Pribanic pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with a walk and five strikeouts.  Tom Boleska pitched two shutout innings, walking two and striking out three.  Tyler Cox pitched a shutout inning, with a walk and a strikeout.

Quincy Latimore went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, and two RBIs.  Robbie Grossman went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo homer.  Austin McClune went 2-for-4.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)
West Virginia lost to Delmarva 3-2.  Jason Erickson pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits, no walks, and striking out six.  Mike Williams pitched two shutout innings, allowing a walk and a hit, and striking out two.  Gabriel Alvarado allowed three runs on five hits in an inning of work to get the loss.

Jarek Cunningham went 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and a run.  David Rubinstein went 1-for-5 with a double, a run, and an RBI.  Ramon Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI.  Benjamin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)
State College lost to Connecticut 2-1.  Quinton Miller made a rehab start, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in five innings, with no walks or strikeouts.  Mitchell Fienemann pitched two shutout innings, allowing three hits, no walks, and striking out one.  Justin Ennis added a perfect inning in relief.

Gerlis Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Matt Curry had his first professional game without a hit in 13 games this year, going 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run.  Miguel Mendez went 2-for-4.

GCL Pir

ates (RK, Short Season)

The GCL Pirates lost to the GCL Phillies 4-2.  Cliff Archibald pitched three innings, allowing a run on six hits, with no walks and no strikeouts.  Joan Montero pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Barrett Phillips pitched two shutout innings, with two walks, two hits, and one strikeout.

Eric Avila went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, returning to third base tonight.  Elias Diaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Kevin Mort went 2-for-4 with a run.

VSL PIRATES (RK)
The VSL Pirates swept a double header against the VSL Tigers.  The Pirates won game one 8-3.  Orlando Castro pitched five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.  Luis Cardona went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, a stolen base, and an RBI.  Francisco Aponte went 1-for-2 with two walks.  Kelly Aponte went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Luis Sucre went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs, plus a stolen base.

The Pirates won game two 7-4.  Francisco Vilchez pitched five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.  Jose Ozuna went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, two RBIs, and three runs.  Jose Roman went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs.  Francisco Aponte went 0-for-3 with a walk and his 20th stolen base of the season.

DSL PIRATES (RK)
The DSL Pirates lost to the DSL Red Sox 2-1.  Porfirio Lopez pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.  Brayan Almonte went three shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.  Cristopher Richardson pitched 2.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Alen Hanson went 1-for-4.  Willy Garcia went 0-for-3 with a stolen base.  Diego Goris went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Jhoanel Jimenez went 1–for-3.
