Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/17/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Indianapolis beat Rochester 10-7.  Charlie Morton pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits, with two walks, two strikeouts, and two homers.  Jeremy Powell pitched 1.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits.  Justin Thomas allowed a run on a walk and a hit in 0.2 innings.  Wilfredo Ledezma pitched 1.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs, and two RBIs.  Jeff Clement went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, and two runs scored.  Kevin Melillo went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Alex Presley went 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs, and three RBIs.  Jason Jaramillo went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Altoona beat Harrisburg 18-15, scoring ten runs in the top of the ninth to get the win.  Bryan Morris had a bad start, allowing six runs on five hits in 4.2 innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.  Dustin Molleken pitched 1.1 perfect innings, with one strikeout.  Michael Dubee also struggled, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits, getting only one out.  Anthony Claggett allowed three runs on four hits in an inning of work.  Ramon Aguero got the win, getting the last two outs in the eighth inning.

Hector Gimenez went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, and three RBIs.  Matt Hague went 2-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs.  Miles Durham went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, and four RBIs.  Jordy Mercer went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, a stolen base, and three runs.  Brandon Jones went 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs.  Chase d’Arnaud went 2-for-6 with two runs.  Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-5 with two runs, a walk, and an RBI.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)
Bradenton lost to Clearwater 4-3.  Nathan Baker made his debut, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings, with a walk and five strikeouts.  Duke Welker pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.  Casey Erickson pitched two innings, allowing a run on two hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jordan Newton went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored.  Adam Davis went 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Brian Friday went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in a rehab appearance.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)
West Virginia lost to Delmarva 6-4.  Melkin Laureano pitched five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.  Zach Foster pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a run on three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Ryan Kelly pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Aaron Baker went 2-for-4 with a double, and a solo homer.  Kyle Morgan went 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs.  David Rubinstein went 1-for-4 with a double.  Jairo Marquez went 2-for-4 with a double.  Evan Chambers went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)
State College beat Auburn 11-10.  Kevin Decker had a rough start, allowing eight runs on seven hits, with three walks and no strikeouts.  Jhonatan Ramos pitched four shutout innings, allowing one hit, no walks, and striking out four.  Casey Sadler pitched two innings, allowing a run on three hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Jason Townsend pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit, two walks, and striking out one.  Justin Ennis pitched one inning, allowing a run on two hits, with one strikeout.

Walker Gourley went 3-for-6 with a homer, two runs, and two RBIs.  Adalberto Santos went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, a stolen base, and three RBIs.  Matt Curry went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base.  Chase Lyles went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)
The GCL Pirates beat the GCL Phillies 9-4.  Joely Rodriguez pitched five innings, allowing a run on six hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.  Kevin Kleis made his professional debut, pitching a perfect inning in relief.  Logan Pevny also made his professional debut, pitching a perfect inning in relief and striking out two.  Yeyber Sanchez pitched one inning, allowing three runs on one hit, with two walks and a strikeout.  Jarryd Sullivan pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit.

Eric Avila went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored.  Jorge Bishop went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and two stolen bases.  Exicardo Cayonez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run. Michael Trinidad went 1-for-3 with a solo homer.  Gregory Polanco went 1-for-4 with a solo homer.
