Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/22/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Indianapolis lost to Lehigh Valley 3-2.  Charlie Morton pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.  Brian Bass pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit, no walks and four strikeouts.  Wilfredo Ledezma pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Kevin Melillo went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run.  Akinori Iwamura went 1-for-4 with a solo homer.  Jim Negrych went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Altoona lost to Trenton 8-3.  Derek Hankins pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits, with three walks and a strikeout.  Mike Colla pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits in his debut at the AA level.  Michael Dubee pitched 3.2 shutout innings, allowing a walk, a hit, and striking out one.

Josh Harrison went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, a stolen base, and two RBIs.  Jordy Mercer went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Miles Durham went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Chase d’Arnaud went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)
Bradenton beat Dunedin 5-3.  Nathan Baker pitched five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, with four walks and four strikeouts.  Duke Welker pitched a shutout inning, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out one.  Casey Erickson pitched two innings, allowing a run on three hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.  Noah Krol pitched a shutout inning with one walk allowed.

Robbie Grossman went 1-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI.  Quincy Latimore went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Jordan Newton went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Austin McClune went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)
West Virginia beat Savannah 7-6 in 15 innings.  Jason Erickson pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, with a walk and six strikeouts.  Gabriel Alvarado pitched three innings, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.  Marc Baca allowed two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Maurice Bankston pitched 3.1 perfect innings for the win.

Aaron Baker went 1-for-6 with a solo homer and two walks.  Jose Hernandez went 2-for-6 with a double, a run, and three RBIs.  Elevys Gonzalez went 3-for-7 with a double and a run.  Ramon Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a walk and a run.  Rogelios Noris went 2-for-6 with a double, a walk, and an RBI.  Evan Chambers went 1-for-6 with a run and two walks.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)
State College beat Auburn 8-4.  Colton Cain pitched four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.  Kevin Decker pitched two shutout innings, allowing three hits.  Ryan Beckman pitched three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.Mel Rojas Jr. went 4-for-5 with a double, three runs, two RBIs, and a stolen base.  Gift Ngoepe went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs, plus a stolen base.  Adalberto Santos went 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and an RBI.  Walker Gourley went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)
The GCL Pirates lost to the GCL Tigers 7-5.  Cliff Archibald pitched five innings, allowing a run on four hits, with a walk and a stikeout.  Rinku Singh pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit, no walks, and striking out four.  Bryton Trepagnier allowed six runs on six hits in 0.2 innings, with no walks and one strikeout.  Yomar Pacheco pitched 1.1 shutout innings, allowing one hit, and allowing two inherited runners to score.

Eric Avila went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs, and an RBI.  Gregory Polanco went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Kevin Mort went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two RBIs.  Michael Trinidad went 1-for-4 with two runs and a triple.

VSL PIRATES (RK)
The VSL Pirates beat the VSL Phillies 2-0.  Orlando Castro pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out three.  Jovany Lopez pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.  Raul Ruiz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

David Pino went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.  Jose Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jose Roman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.  Jordan Galvez went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
