Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 7/24/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Indianapolis beat Charlotte 8-5.  Jeremy Powell pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.  Steven Jackson pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with no walks and no strikeouts.  Wilfredo Ledezma pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout for the save.

Jeff Clement went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Kevin Melillo went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and three RBIs.  Luke Carlin went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.  Alex Presley went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs, and a stolen base.  Jim Negrych went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Altoona lost to Trenton 2-0.  Rudy Owens pitched a great game, going seven innings and allowing one unearned run on seven hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.  Tom Boleska made his AA debut, pitching two innings, and allowing one run on two hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.

Brandon Jones went 1-for-4 with a double.  Matt Hague went 1-for-4.  Miles Durham went 1-for-3.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)
Bradenton lost both games of a double header against Dunedin.  Bradenton lost game one 10-5.  Tim Alderson had a rough start, allowing seven runs, six earned, on three hits in four innings, with four walks, three strikeouts, and three homers.  Duke Welker pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit, a walk, and striking out one.  Matt McSwain pitched two innings, allowing three runs on five hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Jordan Newton went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs.  Robbie Grossman went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Jose de los Santos went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Erik Huber went 1-for-2 with a double, a run, a walk, and an RBI.

Bradenton lost game two by a score of 4-3.  Brian Leach pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, with no walks and nine strikeouts.  Diego Moreno pitched a perfect inning, striking out all three batters.

Jose de los Santos went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Quincy Latimore went 1-for-4 with a double, a run, a stolen base, and an RBI.  Adenson Chourio went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)
West Virginia beat Hagerstown 9-1.  Phillip Irwin pitched seven no-hit innings, allowing two walks and striking out eight.  Ryan Kelly came on in the eighth inning, getting the first two outs, before allowing a solo homer.  Kelly pitched two innings, allowing a walk and that homer, while striking out two.

Aaron Baker went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer and two RBIs.  Rogelios Noris went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Jarek Cunningham went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Elevys Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jairo Marquez went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)
State College beat Auburn 7-0.  Tyler Waldron pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits, with no walks and no strikeouts.  Mitchell Fienemann pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit, no walks, and striking out three.  Jason Townsend pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Matt Curry went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Adalberto Santos went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Chase Lyles and Walker Gourley each went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Gift Ngoepe went 1-for-2 with a run and two walks.  Cole White went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)
The GCL Pirates lost to the GCL Blue Jays 9-2.  Vincent Payne pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits, with a walk and five strikeouts.  Kevin Kleis pitched one inning, allowing three unearned runs on four hits.  Logan Pevny pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with no walks and one strikeout.  Yeyber Sanchez pitched two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, with a walk and a strikeout.

Junior Sosa went 2-for-3.  Wesley Freeman went 1-for-4 with an RBI and three strikeouts.  Kevin Mort went 1-for-3.  Daan Cornelissen went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

VSL PIRATES (RK)
The VSL Pirates lost 12-0 to the VSL Rays.  Rafael Rodriguez pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with four walks and two strikeouts.  Jose Marrujo allowed eight runs, six earned, on eight hits in 0.2 innings, with two walks and one strikeout.  Richard Montilla pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit.  Oderman Rocha pitched an inning, allowing one unearned run on no hits, with two walks and a strikeout.  Oscar Calderin allowed one run on two hits in an inning of work.

David Pino went 1-for-3.  Francisco Aponte and Carlos Esqueda each went 1-for-4.  Jose Roman went 1-for-2.
