I just got a message from Pittsburgh Pirates sixth round pick Jason Hursh, who confirmed that he and the Pirates had talked up until today, but that he has decided to go to Oklahoma State. Hursh and seventh round pick Austin Kubitza have both decided to honor their commitments to college, with Kubitza going to Rice.
Hursh is kind of a surprise, as there was a general feeling that he would sign. In my interview with Jason a few weeks ago he had this to say about the negotiations:
Negotiations are going good. I’m talking to the Pirates Area Scout for Texas pretty regularly so it’s getting there.
At this point, tenth round pick Zach Weiss is the only player who could still sign, although the talk on him signing hasn’t been optimistic.
