Ohlendorf to the DL, Burres Called Up

Burres, not Morton, gets the call

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list and have called up Brian Burres to take Ohlendorf’s place.  That’s somewhat of a surprise, as a lot of people expected Charlie Morton to get the call.  Morton has a 1.50 ERA in four starts in August, spanning 24 innings, with a 17:9 K/BB ratio and a .200 BAA.

Burres hasn’t been that bad, with a 4.26 ERA in 44.1 innings since the AAA All-Star break, with a 27:25 K/BB ratio and a .248 BAA in that time frame.  Morton probably can make 1-2 more starts before the end of the AAA season, at which point he will probably return to the majors as a September call-up.
