Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/10/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

GAME STORY

Indianapolis beat Norfolk 10-6.  Joe Martinez pitched five innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits, with a walk and three strikeouts.  Justin Thomas pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out one.  Brian Bass pitched two innings, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

John Bowker went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs.  Mitch Jones went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, a stolen base, and three RBIs.  Alex Presley went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and two RBIs.  Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Pedro Ciriaco went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)

Altoona lost to Trenton 6-3.  Rudy Owens pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out three.  Tom Boleska pitched two innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Derek Hankins pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with a walk and a strikeout.

Andrew Lambo went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI.  Josh Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double.  Matt Hague went 2-for-4 with a walk.  Miles Durham went 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run, and an RBI.  Chase d’Arnaud went 1-for-5 with a double and a run.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)

Bradenton was postponed today.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)

GAME STORY

West Virginia lost to Lakewood 17-3.  Phillip Irwin had a rough start, allowing ten runs on ten hits in four innings, with a walk and three strikeouts.  Irwin allowed most of the damage on four homers.  Mike Williams allowed three runs on three hits in four innings, with two walks and a strikeout.  Zach Foster pitched an inning, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits, with a walk and no strikeouts.

Jairo Marquez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.  David Rubinstein went 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base.  Evan Chambers went 2-for-4 with a walk.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)

GAME STORY

State College lost to Lowell 5-2.  Zach Von Rosenberg pitched five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.  Casey Sadler pitched an inning, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.  Jhonatan Ramos pitched two innings, allowing two runs on six hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Andy Vasquez went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Mel Rojas Jr. went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Adalberto Santos went 2-for-4.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)

The GCL Pirates lost to the GCL Phillies 5-0.  Chris Jakubauskas made a rehab appearance, pitching three innings, and allowing one run on three hits, with two walks and a strikeout.  Kevin Kelis pitched two innings, allowing a run on three hits, with a walk and no strikeouts.  Rinku Singh pitched an inning, allowing two runs on two hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Fraylin Campos pitched three innings, allowing a run on four hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.

Justin Howard went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Junior Sosa went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.  Eric Avila went 1-for-4.

VSL PIRATES (RK)

The VSL Pirates took on the VSL Mariners in game two of the best of three series to crown the 2010 VSL Champion.  The Pirates lost to the Mariners 2-1, tying the series at 1-1.  Francisco Vilchez pitched six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.  Jovany Lopez pitched 1.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

Jose Ortiz went 2-for-3.  Jose Ozuna went 1-for-4 with an RBI.  David Pino went 1-for-4 with a run.

DSL PIRATES (RK)

The DSL Pirates lost both games of a double header to the DSL Rays.  The Pirates lost game one 5-2.  Arquimedes Lorenzo pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Yoan Gonzalez pitched 2.1 innings, allowing a run on three hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Willy Garcia went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Alen Hanson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run.  Jesus Vasquez went 1-for-4.

The Pirates lost game two 4-1.  Clario Perez pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.  Cristopher Richardson pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, on earned, on three hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Ramses Pena went 1-for-3 with a run.  Samuel Gonzalez went 1-for-3.  Jhoanel Jimenez went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
