Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/11/10



Indianapolis beat Norfolk 7-4.  Brian Burres pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.  Corey Hamman pitched 1.2 innings, allowing a run on a walk and a hit, with one strikeout.  Jean Machi pitched 1.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Brandon Moss went 1-for-4 with his 20th homer of the season and two RBIs.  Alex Presley went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.  Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Pedro Ciriaco went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs.


Altoona lost to Trenton 3-2.  Tony Watson pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.  Anthony Claggett pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit and striking out two.  Michael Dubee pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Jim Negrych went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Hector Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.  Andrew Lambo went 1-for-4.


Bradenton lost both games of a double header to Palm Beach.  Bradenton lost game one 5-2.  Brian Leach pitched five innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.  Craig Hansen pitched a shutout inning, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out two.

Eric Fryer went 1-for-2 with a solo homer.  Starling Marte went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Quincy Latimore went 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Jeremy Farrell went 1-for-3.

Bradenton lost game two 2-1.  Matt McSwain pitched four innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, with a walk and no strikeouts.  Diego Moreno pitched a shutout inning, allowing a walk and a hit.  Noah Krol pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit, no walks, and striking out two.

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Starling Marte went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Jeremy Farrell went 1-for-4.


West Virginia was off today.



State College lost to Lowell 6-5.  Zack Dodson pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.  Trent Stevenson pitched two innings, allowing three runs on three hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.  Justin Ennis pitched 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Matt Curry went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.  Andy Vasquez went 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs.  Cole White went 2-for-4 with two runs.  Miguel Mendez went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)

The GCL Pirates were postponed.


The VSL Pirates beat the VSL Mariners 21-2 to win the 2010 Venezuelan Summer League championship.  Here is my writeup of the game.
