Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/15/10




Indianapolis lost 4-2 to Syracuse.  Jeremy Powell pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.  Chris Jakubauskas pitched one inning, allowing two runs on two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Brian Bass pitched 1.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Alex Presley went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  John Bowker went 2-for-3.  Pedro Ciriaco went 2-for-4.  Kevin Melillo went 2-for-4.



Altoona lost to New Hampshire 3-2 in 11 innings.  Rudy Owens pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits, no walks and striking out six.  Jared Hughes pitched three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.  Daniel Moskos pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit and striking out one.  Derek Hankins pitched two innings, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Jordy Mercer went 2-for-4 with a walk.  Chase d’Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a triple, a run, and two stolen bases.



Bradenton split a double header with Palm Beach.  Bradenton lost game one 4-2.  Nathan Baker pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.  Casey Erickson pitched an inning in his return from the disabled list, allowing a run on two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Starling Marte went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Quincy Latimore went 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Calvin Anderson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.

Bradenton won game two 1-0.  Matt McSwain pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out three.  Diego Moreno pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Noah Krol pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit, no walks, and striking out two.

James Skelton went 3-for-3 with a double.  Shelby Ford went 1-for-3.

Yerfi Taveras was demoted to the GCL prior to the game to make room for Casey Erickson’s return to the roster.


West Virginia was scheduled to play a double header, but had game one suspended in the second, tied at 3-3, with game two being postponed.  Eliecer Navarro pitched two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Kyle Morgan went 1-for-1 with a three run homer.  Rogelios Noris, Ramon Cabrera, and Elevys Gonzalez all recorded hits.


State College was postponed.
