Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/24/10




Indianapolis lost to Louisville 5-1.  Michael Crotta (L, 5-8, 4.42) pitched six innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.  Brian Bass (3.88) pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit and striking out one.  Dana Eveland (10.69) pitched one inning, allowing a run on one hit, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Mitch Jones (.247) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Alex Presley (.297), Akinori Iwamura (.252), and Erik Kratz (.290) all went 1-for-4.  Kratz stole a base and had an RBI.



Altoona beat Erie 6-5 with two runs scored in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Jared Hughes (4.22) pitched six innings, allowing a run on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.  Bryan Morris (4.45) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.  It looks like Morris might be reaching his innings limit for the season if he’s pitching in relief.  Michael Dubee (W, 6-2, 2.10) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Jordy Mercer (.271) went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.  Matt Hague (.294) went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two walks.  Josh Harrison (.300) went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base (17).  Chase d’Arnaud went 0-for-3 with two walks, two runs, and a stolen base (31).


Bradenton was postponed.



West Virginia beat Rome 5-2 in 12 innings.  Jason Erickson (4.32) pitched six innings, allowing a run on four hits, with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Mike Williams (3.40) pitched two perfect innings.  Maurice Bankston (BS, W, 7-4, 5.14) pitched three innings, allowing a run on two hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Gabriel Alvarado (SV, 5, 4.40) pitched a shutout inning, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Jarek Cunningham (.267) went 2-for-4 with a homer (12) and two RBIs.  David Rubinstein (.286) went 1-for-4 with a double, two walks, and a run.  Andy Vasquez (.400) went 2-for-5 with two runs.  Elevys Gonzalez (.281) went 0-for-1 with four walks and a run scored.




State College lost to Mahoning Valley 1-0.  Zack Dodson (L, 2-4, 5.18) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing a run on six hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.  Trent Stevenson (4.45) pitched 2.1 perfect innings.  Mitchell Fienemann (3.90) pitched a shutout inning, allowing a walk and a hit, and striking out one.

Drew Maggi (.238) went 1-for-3 with two walks.  Matt Curry (.300) went 1-for-4.  Cole White (.269) went 1-for-4.

GCL Pirates (RK, Short Season)

The GCL Pirates were scheduled for a double header, but had one game cancelled.  They lost the other game 5-1 to the GCL Braves.  Joely Rodriguez (3.99) pitched five innings, allowing a run on three hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.  Ryan Hafner (18.00) made his debut, allowing two runs on two hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.  Fraylin Campos (3.97) allowed two runs on a hit, and didn’t record an out in the seventh inning.

Junior Sosa (.306) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base (19).  Justin Howard (.375) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.  Exicardo Cayonez (.268) went 1-for-3.  Jared Lakind (.000) made his debut, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.
