AFL, World Series odds, manager search

Published:

A few quick, unrelated notes.

Tony Sanchez will be the Pirates’ lone representative in the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on the MLB Network at 9 PM, so tune in for a look at the Bucs’ 2009 first round draft pick.

Bodog.com has posted early odds on the 2011 World Series. The Pirates bring up the rear, at 150-1.

Finally, it appears the Bucs’ managerial search is coming down the home stretch. Bo Porter is out of the running, as he has signed on to be the Washington Nationals’ third base coach. With Carlos Tosca probably joining the Braves coaching staff, that only leaves Jeff Banister. Now that the postseason has passed, the Pirates also plan to interview Clint Hurdle of the Texas Rangers. The front office was obviously waiting to interview someone still involved with the playoffs, so Hurdle is probably a strong candidate. It looks to me like Hurdle is the frontrunner, with Banister being the backup plan.

EDIT (11/2/2010, 6:45 PM): I just wanted to add this tweet from Rob Biertempfel, regarding the manager search:

Nats new 3b coach Porter is technically still in hunt for #Pirates mgr job, but I keep hearing Jeff Banister is frontrunner, pending HurdleTue Nov 02 21:23:35 via web
