Pirates Close to Deal for Kawakami?

Published:

The Pirates seem to be close to acquiring Kawakami.

Rob Biertempfel tweets that a source tells him the Pittsburgh Pirates seem to be close to a deal for Kenshin Kawakami.  He says that money is one hold up, and that another holdup is when/if Paul Maholm is dealt.  Could be two situations to watch today.

Yesterday I looked at why the Pirates might be looking at Kawakami.  The ideal situation would be for the Pirates to take on a large sum of his salary in exchange for acquiring a cheap prospect, although it seems more likely now that he would be brought in as rotation depth if Maholm is dealt.
