blanton would be the best choice in terms of adding a starter. I would also like them to make a bid for balfour, even though it would cost them a 2nd rd pick

The Pirates should have gone after Garza in November when the price tag was a little lower. Now the Rays will command a king’s ransom for him. At this point, Blanton would be a cheaper option as far as what the Pirates would have to give up to get him. Unfortunately, Blanton is not Garza.

I like the idea of signing Fuentes, using Hanrahan in a trade, and pushing Olsen and Morton to the bullpen by adding starters. Go after Blanton and Garza in trades and have a bullpen of Fuentes, Meek, Resop, Olsen, Morton, Hart and Karstens.

i love neals approach with adding a closer type. worse case even with an overpay you can hopefully get a dotel type return. if you cant do even better by shipping off hanrahan or meek for some young pitching,SS, or slugging corner OF essentially buying players that can help down the road

I think Olsen is going to rebound this year , with performance incentive contract, he has decent stuff better than Maholm in my opinion just all bout putting it together.
