Live From Pirate City – 3/22

Published:

I arrived at Pirate City this morning around 8:45 AM, while most of the players were doing warm ups.  So far the only notable thing has been the bullpen sessions.  Rudy Owens, Jameson Taillon, Kyle McPherson, Daniel Moskos and Duke Welker were among the pitchers who threw bullpen sessions this morning (pictures below).

I talked to Tony Sanchez briefly.  He’s not happy with his Arizona Fall League performance.  He mentioned that it is the first time he hasn’t hit for average in his career.  He did point out he hit for power, but said he’d rather be hitting for average.  He also wants a better picture on the site, rather than the Cape Cod league one, which he said was 50 pounds ago.  That better picture will come today.

There is action later today, with the AAA and AA teams scheduled to play here.  I’ll have updates on Twitter.  Here are some pictures from this morning.

A Canadian baseball academy just showed up.  They’ll be playing someone here today.  I’m not sure what level, because the schedule just says “Pirates”.  I’ll probably be taking a break here soon, so that I can get back for the games at 1:00.
