If we pass on the opportunity to make a deal for Kevin Slowey, we are going in the wrong direction. But, Minnie does not need Closers such as Hanrahan & Meek. They have a kid by the name of Capps, and Joe Nathan working his way back. I think they, like I, would be more interested in Chris Resop. Also, LH hitting Mauer is working his way back behind the plate, LH hitting Morneau is trying to get untracked after a concussion, and LH hitting DH Jim Thome just made it to .100+ the other day. They need Ryan Doumit! Slowey is entering his 4th year of MLB Service so we could have him at least 3 years. Whatever it takes, this is a deal that has to be done!

I wouldn't do that trade. While I agree that a SP is more important than a relief pitcher I don't believe Slowey represents the best value the Pirates could get for either Hanrahan or Meek. At this point the Pirates need to maximize value out of all the players they can.

With our teams makeup they need starters more than they need closers. Can't close a game if your not winnning. Not sure which CP I would trade, guess it would depend on $ and how long we have control.

I would trade Hanrahan for Slowey in a second, nothing more worthless to a last place team than an overpriced closer who can't help you the first 8 innings of a game. Meek obviously can close too so it's not like we need two potential closers in the pen and there's also an obvious need for a better starting rotation. I'll worry about our closer being good when the people pitching 2/3rds of the game are good themselves
