Presley went 3-for-6 with a home run today.

Notes: Indianapolis lost both games of a double header today.  The Indians lost game one after a poor start by Sean Gallagher (0-3, 7.23).  Gallagher pitched 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, with five walks and three strikeouts.  Tony Watson (3.27) closed out the game, pitching 2.1 innings, and allowing one run on two hits, with a walk and three strikeouts.

Alex Presley (.333) went 1-for-3 with a home run, his second of the year.  Josh Harrison (.314) went 1-for-3 with his sixth stolen base of the year.  Chase d’Arnaud (.242) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Indianapolis lost game two, giving up the lead late in the game.  Garrett Olson (0.00) made the start, pitching 2.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out five.  All of his base runners came in the third, although Justin Thomas (1.64) stranded them, getting the final out.  Jose Ascanio (33.75) allowed four runs in 1.1 innings, allowing Columbus to close in on a five run Indianapolis lead.  Chris Leroux (2-1, 6.52) allowed two runs, one earned, in 0.2 innings to take the loss.

Presley had another good game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Corey Wimberly (.243) went 2-for-4 with a run.  Gorkys Hernandez (.229) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, after going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in game one.  Hernandez was hitting ninth in each game.

ALTOONA CURVE (AA)

Holt went 4-for-5.

Starting Pitcher: Jeff Locke (5.0 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 2 HR)

Top Hitter: Jeremy Farrell (3-for-4, 2B, HR, BB, 2 RBI)

Notes: Altoona got a lot of offense, mostly from the first two hitters in the lineup.  Starling Marte (.385) and Brock Holt (.333) each went 4-for-5, with both hitters getting hits in their first four at-bats.  Holt had two doubles, while Marte had a triple, a stolen base, and two RBIs.  Jeremy Farrell (.305) also had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, a walk, and two RBIs.

Jeff Locke (1-2, 4.35) didn’t have the best start, allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings, although he only walked two and struck out ten.  Brian Leach (2.45) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two walks.  Tom Boleska (0.00) pitched an inning, allowing two walks and two hits.  Noah Krol (5.00) closed it out, but allowed a run on two hits.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)

Lorin pitched six shutout innings.

Starting Pitcher: Phillip Irwin (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 0 HR)

Top Hitter: Elevys Gonzalez (3-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB)

Notes: Phillip Irwin (4.50) made his 2011 debut today, pitching two innings and allowing a run on two hits, with two walks and one strikeout.  Irwin was replaced by Brett Lorin (1-1, 4.24), who threw six shutout innings, allowing six hits, one walk, and striking out four.  Porfirio Lopez (8.10) closed out the game, pitching a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Bradenton got some great hitting off of top Cardinals pitching prospect Shelby Miller, who was very wild today.  Miller allowed seven walks in 4.1 innings, along with four wild pitches, one passed ball, and a hit batter.  Robbie Grossman (.254) went 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Elevys Gonzalez (.404) went 3-for-3 with two walks.  Aaron Baker (.317) went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)

Cumpton had his best outing of the season, pitching three perfect innings.

Starting Pitcher: Zack Dodson (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 0 HR)

Top Hitter: Justin Howard (2-for-4, 2B)

Notes: Zack Dodson (1-2, 4.50) moved up a day in the rotation to make room for Jameson Taillon, who will start on Wednesday.  Side note, I will be in West Virginia on Wednesday to cover the start, and possibly on Thursday to cover Colton Cain’s start.  Dodson allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits in five innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.  Brandon Cumpton (13.83) who has allowed 21 runs in his first three outings, pitched three perfect innings today, striking out three.  Zac Fuesser (2.45) pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.

West Virginia didn’t get much from their offense.  Justin Howard (.333) went 2-for-4 with a double.  Matt Curry (.390) had a rare day at the plate, going 1-for-4 and striking out three times.  Drew Maggi (.174) and Mel Rojas Jr. (.231) each went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
