Jed Lowrie would be THE best shortstop for the Pirates to acquire. He's solid in the field, solid at the plate, and is under team control until 2015. However, as Kevin stated above, Lowrie has a lot of value to Boston as their super-utility guy and he will probably be helping Jose Iglesias transition to the majors next season. Honestly, the Red Sox and Pirates don't make good trade partners at this time. I'm afraid that the Pirates would have to overpay the Red Sox to acquire Lowrie. Let's hope that D'Arnaud is the answer.

I could see your trade scenario plus a bullpen arm for 3 prospects total.
Maybe one of Owens/Morris/Locke, one of Robbie Grossman/Gorkys Hernandez, and fill-in-the-blank bullpen guy.

But the end result is that I would be quite cool with having d'Arnaud get the shot.

UZR says he was bad from 06-08 ranging from -13/150 to -18/150. The last 2 years he was above avg (+2.7) and then downright good last year at +10/150. The main difference is his vast improvement in range from '08. Fans rate his tools as good and his error numbers are also good.

It certainly appears he can play consistent, above average defense the next 3 years and would be a great addition to this Pirate team. Maybe a Morris/Locke/Wilson + young position player could get it done with Arizona looking to dump some salary. Of course, if Chases' hot start in AAA continues we won't need Drew.

Is Drew a good fielder? If his career average is .273 if he was above average it would make sense. Would Cedeno/D'Arnaud + others package get him?

I would expect the Bucs to take a flyer on Brandon Wood if he hits the waiver wire which is expected at some point this year. He is the type of failed prospect NH loves to roll the dice on. I'm okay with that if it occurs this year, but beyond I want to see D'Arnaud given every opportunity to secure the job. I love this kid's tools
