Pedro currently has 524 career plate appearances with a .244/.315/.419 line with a 30.7% strikeout rate. In Mike Schmidt’s first 483 plate appearances .197/.324/.367 line with a 31.3% strikeout rate. This is just one example, but I’m sure we all would be ok with it if Pedro’s next 9,500 plate appearances go something like Schmidt’s did.

I’m in no way saying that this is going to happen, but I think it is WAY too early to call Pedro a bust.

Burgh, The reason I can say that Pedro is a bust is that I watch him almost every day standing at the plate with a blank look on his face after he watches third strikes go sailing by him. I can’t see into the future like other people can I have to base my opinion on what I see not blind faith.

piratemike not sure how you can say Alvarez is a bust already. He hasn’t even played a full MLB season yet. He’s a notorious slow starter at all levels and he’s still only 24.

I think the pick the Pirates should make is Rendon hands down. He’s a proven hitter and defender at the college level. He’s had a down year this year but I think that has more to do with his injuries and basically being pitched around.

It’s a tough call but I don’t see number one value in anybody but Rendon. Plus I think he would add some much needed pop to a lineup that struggles to score at times.

The more I read about Dylan Bundy the more the idea of the Pirates drafting him is growing on me. Still hoping for Cole but Rendon or Bundy would be OK too.

I am glad I don’t have to make the call. Hopefully, its a can’t miss kind of year and not a should have grabbed this guy instead kind of year.

Rendon and Cole scare me with the potential medical issues but if we draft them, good for us. If Hultzen, that is fine with me too. As long as it isn’t a guy that should have been taken at 20 or 25 etc, I will be happy with the pick.

I’ve heard that Aaron was 5’11″ as were and are a lot of players and being big doesn’t guarantee that a player will succeed you just have to look no further than our current third baseman but with three injuries in three years and maybe looking at shoulder surgery I question his stamina over a long pro season year after year.

I wouldnt say Alvarez has gone down in flames lol he doesnt even have a full year in the big yet. But no i agree with you on Rendon, i question his size alot, he just doesnt look like a athlete to me, small frame. For a guy projected to play a corner infield spot and hit 25-30 HRs a year he just doesnt look to project well with his body…But that doesnt mean anything though look at the Dustin Pedroia’s and even Hank Aaron wasn’t a big man (6’0 180) Which is what close to Rendon is right?

After watching Alvarez going down in flames like the Hindenburg I have a real lack of confidence in this next can’t miss guy Rendon. I really question his size and durability especially at a corner spot and on top of that I’ve heard talk that Boras wants 15 million. Maybe they need to go the Tony Sanchez route again. Whatever they do I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.
