Von Rosenberg gets the start for WV

With their win yesterday over the Mariners team, they tied each other for first place. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

AAA: Indianapolis (32-32) VS Gwinnett (33-29) 2:05pm
Probable starter: Justin Wilson (7-3 3.49)

Game notes: Indy won 1-0 yesterday scoring their run on a walkoff single from Matt Hague that plated Alex Presley. Hague, Presley and John Bowker all had two hits apiece while Presley also added the only extra base hit for Indy,a double and he also walked. He is now hitting .343 which is the 3rd highest average in the IL.

AA: Altoona (30-30) @ Reading (33-27) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (5-5 4.66)

Game notes: Altoona’s game was suspended due to rain with the Curve up 11-1 in the 3rd inning. They will complete this game first then play the regularly scheduled game which will now be 7 innings.

High-A: Bradenton (26-36) @ Ft Myers (31-31) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Phillip Irwin (4-0 2.08)

Game notes: Bradenton won their game 5-4 in 11 innings last night despite starter Brett Sinkbeil giving up 3 runs in just 4 innings. Robbie Grossman went 2-5 with a walk and SB. Jarek Cunningham went 2-5 with a double. Aaron Baker went 3-5 with a double and his 46th RBI.

Low-A: West Virginia (30-30) @ Greensboro (28-32) 4:00pm
Probable starter: Zack Von Rosenberg (1-4 7.22)

VSL: VSL Pirates (13-9) VS VSL Phillies (10-14) 11:00am 6/13

Games notes: Four pitchers shutdown the Mariners team yesterday for 7.2 IP after starter Oderman Rocha got knocked out early. Kelly Aponte hit his team leading 4th home run and Jose Roman went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Edgard Munoz went 3-5 out of the leadoff spot raising his average to .375 after 19 games played.

DSL: DSL Pirates (8-2) VS DSL Yankees2 (5-5) 10:30am

Game notes: The Pirates and Dodgers played a doubleheader yesterday with the Pirates taking the 1st game 6-1 behind the pitching of starter Ricky Perez who went 4 innings allowing just an unearned run and Mervin Del Rosario who pitched 3 scoreless innings extending his scoreless streak to 8.2 IP to start his career. Edwin Espinal went 2-4 driving in 2 runs, he now has 14 in just 9 games. In game two the Pirates pounded out 15 hits winning 11-5 with five players posting multi-hit games. Ramses Pena went 2-3 with 2 walks,a stolen base and he scored 2 runs.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
