Minor League Schedule: 6/7/11

The VSL team played a doubleheader to make up for a rainout and the DSL team has been rained out four games in a row so expect some upcoming doubleheaders for them. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

Justin Wilson looks for his seventh win tonight for Indy.

AAA: Indianapolis (28-30) @ Buffalo (26-33) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Justin Wilson (6-3 3.19)

Game notes: Chase d’Arnaud went 2-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored during yesterday’s comeback win. Brian Friday went 3-4 with 3 doubles,2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Eric Fryer went 2-4 with a double. Alex Presley hit a pinch hit triple after not starting 2 straight games due to a HBP on Saturday.

AA: Altoona (28-28) VS Erie (27-28) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (4-5 4.99)

Game notes: Altoona had the day off yesterday. They resume their schedule at home versus Erie with a three game series. The Curve currently sit four games out of first place.

High-A: Bradenton (24-34) @ Jupiter (27-31) 6:35pm 6/8
Probable starter: Nate Baker (3-3 4.23)

Game notes: Phillip Irwin threw 7 shutout innings last night allowing seven hits, one walk and he struck out five. Robbie Grossman went 2-3 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored. He raised his league leading walk total to 39 on the year. Elevys Gonzalez, Ramon Cabrera and David Rubinstein all had two hits apiece. Evan Chambers went 1-3 with 2 walks.

Low-A: West Virginia (27-29) VS Delmarva (32-26) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Tyler Waldron (4-2 3.92)

Game notes: Zack Von Rosenberg gave up 5 runs in 3.1 IP last night. He allowed 7 hits,walked 2 and struck out two. Zac Fuesser gave up 3 runs in 2 IP, just one of the runs was earned. Casey Sadler finished up with 2 scoreless innings. Daniel Grovatt, Andrew Maggi and Elias Diaz all has 2 hits and Eric Avila went 1-2 with 2 walks.

VSL: VSL Pirates (10-8) VS VSL Mariners (11-8) 11:00am

Games notes: Oderman Rocha pitched game one yesterday giving up 1 run in 4 innings with 6 strikeouts. He allowed just 2 hits. Luis Rico started game two and gave up 3 runs in 3 IP. Ulises Montilla went a combined 3-6,walk and 3 RBI’s. Carlos Esqueda went 1-1 with 6 walks. Jose Salazar went 3-8 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Edgard Munoz went 3-3 with 3 doubles in the 2nd game. He is now hitting .386.

DSL: DSL Pirates (3-1) VS DSL Indians (3-2) 10:30am

Game notes: The DSL Pirates were rained out four a fourth straight time. Including their scheduled day off on Sunday, they have now gone five days without playing.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
