He definitely should be extended. The team is 30-32 while not playing to potential. It’s nice to be around .500 and not expect that this is as good as it’s going to get.

I’m not against resigning NH, I just wonder what everyone will be saying if there is the usual collapse ? This past week the starting pitchers have started to show some cracks. I don’t know if they were just hiccups or the beginning of a long slide downhill. The lack of offense has to start catching up, you can’t rely on two or three players to carry you all year, especially if there isn’t one power hitter in the bunch.

He needs extended no doubt. If they don’t extend him it would be highly disappointing and i would hold a grudge against the Pirates for a little while i think.

You gotta look at it this way. Neal Huntington was a rookie GM when he took over he only has 4 Years experience on the job. Not every trade is going to work out. You learn as you go. Not every free agent is going to work out. You learn as you go. Not every draft pick is going to work out. You learn as you go. Thats what Neal is doing and you can see hes clearly getting better in all facets of those departments. Him originally hiring John Russell (Now seen as a mistake) But he fixed it, cut ties and brought in Clint Hurdle. Who clearly has helped this young bucs team tremendously. Not every move is going to work. But Neal Huntington has done the best job out of any one around here since the 90′s.

Give it to him, this is the most optimistic I have been for the pirates in the 20 odd years I have been a fan. Gotta love the base team we have on the field, with the possibility of a big boost coming from the minors in the next few years, it’s a great time to be a pirates fan.

It’s a no brainer. The job Neal has done is light years ahead of his predecessors. The farm system is as healthy as it has been in years. One thing that Neal will have to do to put the Pirates over the low to middle is acquire a first rate rbi man. Players like Overbay will no longer cut it. As for Presley, would he not be more beneficial to the parent club than Ciriaco. Even in an 8-1 game the Bucs won’t play him in the field. Three at bats in 3 weeks! The Pirates need to see if Presley can carry this over to the majors. RF is a mess; Diaz no homers, circus performer in the outfield; Jones totally out of confidence - should never pinch hit vrs. a lefty; Paul some potential but not sure if its more than Presley. It took Aki flaming out before Neal Walker showed what he can do. It’s time for Presley.

I’m all for extending NH. I’d say he needs to do a better job of acquiring/developing bats, but it’s more injuries and under-performance (Synder, Doumit, Jones, Alvarez, Overbay), than it is NH failing as a GM in that respect.
