Minor League Schedule: 7/12/11

For an in depth review of yesterday’s games please check out our minor league wrap-up which can be found here. Indianapolis is on their all-star break until Thursday. The DSL Pirates and West Virginia both had off yesterday while the VSL team was rained out. Altoona also takes their all-star breaking starting today and will resume their schedule Thursday night. State College and Bradenton each have off today as well. Only WV and the three rookie league teams are playing today.

Stevenson gets his 3rd start of the year tonight

AAA: Indianapolis (47-45) @ Columbus (58-33) 7:05pm 7/14
Probable starter: (TBD)

Indy is currently in 3rd place, 11.5 games behind first place Columbus. Matt Hague will represent Indy in the AAA all-star game on Wednesday night

AA: Altoona (37-52) @ Erie (43-47) 7:05pm 7/14
Probable starter: (TBD)

Altoona is currently in last place, 16 games behind 1st place Harrisburg. Jeff Locke, Aaron Pribanic, Starling Marte and Brock Holt will represent Altoona in the EL all-star game Wednesday night

High-A: Bradenton (40-49 overall 10-9 2nd half) @ Dunedin (49-39 overall 10-8 2nd half) 7:00pm 7/13
Probable starter: (TBD)

Bradenton is currently in 4th place in their division, just one game behind the leaders St Lucie and Palm Beach for the 2nd half title.

Low-A: West Virginia (41-45 overall 6-12 2nd half) VS Hickory (51-35 overall 11-7 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Trent Stevenson (0-2 5.72)

Stevenson will be making his 3rd start of the season tonight. He has made 17 relief appearances as well. In his last start on 7/6 he went 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. His first start was against tonight’s opponent Hickory, on 6/26 when he allowed one run in four innings. Trent has a 3.13 ERA in 9 road appearances and an 0-2 8.34 ERA in 10 home appearances.

Short Season A: State College (7-18) @ Staten Island (19-4) 7:05pm 7/13
Probable starter: Jordan Cooper (0-1 16.87)

State College is currently in last place in their division, eight games behind Jamestown. They have won two straight after losing seven in a row.

Rookie: GCL Pirates (11-8) VS GCL Yankees (11-8) 12:00pm

The GCL Pirates are in 2nd place, one game behind the Phillies.

VSL: VSL Pirates (28-18) VS VSL Mariners (26-23) 11:00am

The VSL Pirates are in first place and have a 2 1/2 game lead over the 2nd place Rays.

DSL: DSL Pirates (22-12) VS DSL Astros (12-18) 10:30am

The DSL Pirates are in 1st place, 1 1/2 games ahead of the DSL Red Sox

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
