Minor League Schedule: 7/25/11

Von Rosenberg pitched six shutout innings his last start.

For an in depth review of yesterday’s games please check out our minor league wrap-up which can be found here. The DSL, VSL and GCL Pirates teams were all off yesterday. All three teams resume play today and all three of them start the day in first place.

AAA: Indianapolis (53-50) VS Rochester (38-63) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Brad Lincoln (7-7 3.81)

Brad will get his 18th start of the season tonight. In his last start he gave up one run in 6 innings. In 5 of his last 7 starts he has allowed just one earned run and in his last 10 starts he has a 3.03 ERA. He is the team leader with 86 strikeouts and he has walked just 19 batters all year. During his last start vs Rochester on June 19th he allowed 3 runs,one earned, over 7.1 innings.

AA: Altoona (42-58) @ Reading (53-48) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Kyle McPherson (4-3 2.82)

Kyle is making his 9th start for Altoona and his 21st overall start on the year. His last outing was his best with the Curve as he went 6 shutout innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out six. He faced Reading on June 28th and allowed 2 runs in 5 innings while striking out seven. Between Bradenton and Altoona he has an 8-4 2.86 record. In 116.1 innings he has walked just 17 batters and has struck out 103.

High-A: Bradenton (48-53 overall 18-13 2nd half) @ Clearwater (53-46 overall 14-16 2nd half) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Jhonathan Ramos (2-3 2.72)

Ramos will make his 3rd start of the season. His first 22 appearances of the year were as a reliever. He threw 5.2 shutout innings last Wednesday allowing 5 hits, 1 walk and recorded three strikeouts. In his first start on July 15th he allowed one run in 5 innings. The 21 year old LHP is 1-2 2.28 in 12 away games this year, one as a starter.

Low-A: West Virginia (45-53 overall 10-20 2nd half) @ Charleston (41-59 overall 15-15 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zack Von Rosenberg (3-7 7.04)

Zack is coming off his best outing of the season Wednesday when he allowed just one base hit over 6 innings while walking none and striking out five. He has made 17 starts this year and two relief appearances.  Zack has a 2-3 5.74 record on the road this year. He is tied with Colton Cain for the team league in strikeouts with 74.

Short Season A: State College (11-26) VS Brooklyn (20-16) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (1-2 3.60)

Nick will be making his 8th start of the season tonight. The 2010 4th round draft pick has had two poor appearances where he has allowed 9 runs in just 7 innings and five strong performances where he given up just three runs over 23 innings. He is the team leader with 24 strikeouts and among starters only Ryan Hafner(3.34) has a better ERA.

Rookie: GCL Pirates (19-11) VS GCL Blue Jays (11-19) 12:00pm

The GCL Pirates are in 1st place tied with the Yankees.

VSL: VSL Pirates (33-25) VS VSL Reds (31-28) 11:00am

The VSL Pirates are in first place and have a 1 1/2 game lead over the 2nd place Rays.

DSL: DSL Pirates (29-16) VS DSL Mets2 (20-29) 10:30am

The DSL Pirates are in 1st place,tied with the DSL Royals who have played two more games.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
