I haven’t changed my opinion.

I’m not being critical i think they are doing a good job but to me this article just shows how far they have to go and how long it will take.

No system is full of quality players at every position at every level but the Pirates after only 4 drafts and 4 years of Latin signings have done well and have some high profile players but the overall depth is still years away as it should be.

Looking at all the playes named in the two articles except for a player here or there they are all marginal players who if they make the majors will only have a cup of coffee.

I’m anxiously awaiting part III which I imagine will be Bradenton. I think the big difference with the 2012 version of Altoona is the pitching depth. Obviously 2007 had the better crop of impact position players but 2012 boasts a possible ace(Cole) and several possible starters/relievers along with some mediocre position players. Although the 2007 version had more impact types, the 2012 team has a lot more actual prospects and not too many organizational types. I think that shows the depth the Pirates have been able to find in the later rounds of the draft as opposed to Littlefield’s starategy of drafting low ceiling college seniors after the first round….
