Everywhere I read, they say that Josh Bell is going to Texas. If this is true, that he never intended to go into the majors as he claimed all along.... then drafting him was a wasted pick.

almost everyone mentioned above ( mst of whom are struggling) are Huntington pick-ups. Yes he flooded the system with minor leaguers, he just didn't necessarily flood it with GOOD minor leaguers.
Or so it seems this year

Man i am all screwed up......about a month ago i was complaining that the people handling the draft were doing a poor job of evaluating talent, then Tim wrote an article explaining why you shouldn't rush to judgement on prospects so i decided to back off my complaints and give the system time to work.

Now WTM writes this piece and i am right back where i started.......AARRGHHHHH...

Perhaps the issues relating to lack of depth in Power and OF talent in the organization will pressure the Pirates further to pay whatever it costs to sign Josh Bell.
As for Allie, I have thought all along that he will not pan out. I really hope he does, but basically the Pirates spent a #2 pick on a guy that can throw 98-100 but can't control it. He's a thrower and nto a pitcher. Hopefully they can teach him and he responds, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't think he ever should have been, nor be currently considered a top pitching prospect. I hope I am 100% wrong about this!

It's amazing how poor Littlefield drafted and developed first basemen. The premier power position - and until Huntington drafted and developed Hague, Curry, Dickerson - the Pirates system was completely devoid of any prospect. That's why we have Lyle Overbay today and had to go through the torturous experiences with Adam LaRoche.

I'm confident that Littlefield's failures will be felt for years to come. Huntington is doing a good job restacking the system and it's encouraging to see development of the hitting prospects.

Wonderful overview of the system as a whole!

In general, I am optimistic about the future of the Pirates (as compared to two years ago), but we have significant, glaring weaknesses in our system and our major league team that worry me about our potential to compete long-term.

My realistic hopes for next year see Sanchez return to pre-injury form, some of the Altoona four emerge as legit major league pitchers, and the West Virginia pitching corps continuing to develop well.

My two biggest **wishes** are for us to sign Josh Bell and to see Gerritt Cole become dominant from the get-go next season.

I believe that the Pirates need to strike a better balance in the draft. Last year 9 out of the first 10 were pitchers, and the only position player was an undersized Rojas. This year Cole was picked over Rendon and Starling. Passing on Bubba Starling I believe will come back to haunt the Bucs. Drafting a top notch player will get even more difficult next year when the Bucs draft position will be much lower.
