The Pittsburgh Pirates have added six players to the active roster today, highlighted by third baseman Pedro Alvarez. Along with Alvarez, the Pirates recalled left handed pitchers Jeff Locke, Aaron Thompson, and Daniel Moskos.
They also purchased the contract of right handed pitcher Jared Hughes, and activated Evan Meek from the 60-day disabled list, recalling him to the majors. To make room on the 40-man roster for the last two moves, the Pirates have transferred Kevin Correia and Paul Maholm from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

So Maholm and Correia are definitely done for the season. It will be good to see Meek get some time before the season ends.

Thanks for the memories, Paul.
Will we see Locke & Thompson auditioning for major league roles for 2012?

If they don’t resign him I will be very pissed off. If they had no intention of extending him then why didn’t they trade him for a good bat? Doesn’t make sense.

Can Bum Jones be transferred to the 60 day dl , so starling marte can see time in RF. The Rockies are looking at alex white and drew pomeranz both in the rotation top of the line prospects.

No need to rush Marte.

There’s no rush for the rockies to bring up Pomeranz with Alex White but they did it anyways. Starling Marte will be on the Pirates for several years to come and he cant do anymore in the minors and needs to be up with the Pirates. Alex Presley might battle for Tabata for playing time in LF since Tabata is very lost in RF. Bum Jones is taking critical at bats away from Marte who needs promoted for his great assassin season in AA he just killed pitchers. The weather is cool enough in Pittsburgh the fans dont need hurricane bum jones in there cooling down the stadium 20 to 30 degrees with his swings and misses.

What other teams do with their prospects should have no bearing on what the Pirates do with their prospects.
Marte hasn’t even played at the AAA level yet. He also could use some continued approach on his plate patience, drawing more walks, and continuing to cut down on the strikeouts. He definitely has more to work on in the minors. No need to rush him with Tabata and Presley in the majors.
