Yeah, that's probably the most ridiculous statement that's ever been made on this website. We still don't have a legit #1, however, starting next season we'll have 2 with the potential to be so in Taillon and Cole actually in the system. I would like to see Morton continue to improve his command and ability to pitch to lefties, if that happens into next year, I think he's a legit #2. As for Lincoln, I'd like to see him get a chance at least. Olehndorf, I'd like to see stay healthy for an entire season, and to actually throw harder than my grandmother.

Karstens is da man. I see him as a legit #1. . Morton and McDonald are #3's. Correia is a servicable #4. But, if they dont pick up Maholm's option year, they have some holes to fill next year. I dont see Lincoln or Ohlendorf as major league starting pitchers. Hopefully either Locke or Thompson develop as a major league left handed starting pitcher.

Bottom line, If Maholm is healthy, you gotta pick up that option.

Ian Kennedy may even be a better example, most of the time he is 88-89, occasionally touches 92 BUT the guy is the best young pitcher in the game.

they definately rely too much on fastball velocity, its just not that important. There are tons of good pitchers in MLB, very few of them power pitchers. You need to throw in the low 90's, no doubt about that, but its embarassing how in love the Buccos are with velocity. I just dont see too many of these 6'3 230 right handed power pitchers panning out. What you need is guys who can pitch. Look what Vance Worley is doing for the Phils this year. Amazing year...he occasionally hits 91-92, but thats it.

Thank you for this piece...

I actually think this philosophy could work out for the buccos if we can keep drafting top talent. Like you said with Von Rosenberg, you have to be perfect with a 88mph fastball (like Greg Maddux!), but you have more room for error if you're hitting 96.

I'm excited to see what we do with Cole when he gets in the system. I bet he gets off to a slow start like Taillon.
