I think Sanchez starts in AA next year and gets a quick promotion to AAA if he does well. Or they could go the Chase d”Arnaud route and start him in AAA regardless of his numbers this season. Regardless of where they place him to start the season I still see him taking over in 2013 as our starting catcher.

The fact that the fo placed him at AA with so little A-ball experience shows what they think of his abilities. His #’s weren’t good but he didn’t get abused to the point where he needed to get sent back down. He was flat mediocre all year but with the good eye and solid K #’s I’m not too worried about it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played well next spring and is ready for AAA…although he most likely will repeat AA.

A talk show was discussing this subject mainly about Joe Mauer. Because his offense is so good they had to pay him a huge amount of money and that creates problems because they rely so much on his bat and catchers are more prone to injuries and  they wearout toward the end of the season also during the season they won’t play a catcher in a day game the day after a night contest. They talked about how Mike Piazza never played for the Mets on Sundays because of that and a lot of fans were dissappointed when they went to the game and couldn’t ever see one on their stars.

I don’t think Sanchez will ever have that type of offense but if the Pirates ever get a catcher with a really big bat they might want to reposition him in the minors before it becomes an issue.
