I agree it is a risk but that is what business is about about, risk vs reward.  I think a $1.1M minimal to moderate risk is worth the compensation pick.

The Pirates should be doing like the Rays are.  Starts racking up as many early round picks as possible.  Of course that assume that Bud Selig won’t screw the Pirates with his hard cap or luxury tax on draft picks.

I don’t think Lee will come back at all.  Ludwick might for the money but I would take the chance.
