In Walkers case I think I would forget the UZR and be satisfied that he makes the plays he should make, unfortunately the Pirates use stats far to much to determine who they like and who they don’t like. Mercer at this point in time is probably their best bet at SS, but he is in the Hague, Walker and Presley catagories, there will have to be a point that they don’t have any other options for Hague and Mercer to show what they can really do, already happened with Presley and Walker.

That logic only makes sense if you’ve got a replacement for him. Second basemen with the offensive potential that Walker has aren’t easy to come by, especially on what amounts to five year deals.

I think Mercer is more likely to get a shot at shortstop, with that position open, and second base locked down.

With Mercer getting time at second previously, would he be a candidate to move to second?

He is good, why aren’t they trading him for prospects? Seems like the logical move for our FO to dump him while his value is high right?
