I don’t see them adding another position player. They might try to get a pitcher or two. They needed a shortstop and a catcher and seems like they acquired them. Their other wildcard is first base, but they can go all out to sign Lee or go with Jones and a righty in a platoon. I cannot fathom why Lee would be dead set against coming here. From what I read, it doesn’t seem like a World Series caliber team needs him with Puljois and Fielder being out there. The big negative with the Pirates is they will not pay. IF they pay him, why would he care unless he just wants to retire? Outside of World Series ready teams, the Pirates (if they pay him) is as good of a place as any to play, especially for 8 to 10 million. I mean, he signed with Baltimore, so why not us?

They seem wedded to the idea of playing Cutch, Pressly and Tabata in the outfield and giving Alvalez another shot at third, and Walker is set at second, so where would an impact bat go? Also, Sterling Marte looks like he will be up this year unless he completely tanks in AAA. Its either first base or nothing,

The pirates should trade Joel Hanrahan for Jack Hannahan and a bowl of Irish soup.

Yep. He has nothing to gain by telling the Pirates he isn’t interested.

I don’t think Lee wants to be here. He will likely see where Pujols and Fielder go and then position himself with teams that wanted one of those two but didn’t get either.

Except that they still finished in fifth place with the same team that had them in first place in July. If anything showed the value of defense, it was the fifth place finish.

I agree with the poster who said he would be disappointed if the Pirates didn’t trade Hanrahan. The front office should be using him to get that premium bat. Preferably one like Alonzo, who will be around when McCutchen hits his peak and future starters like Cole and Taillon are here.

Regardless of whether Lee wants to play in Pittsburgh, he’d be smart to keep the decision open as long as possible. That is basically an offer for $8.5 M or more that he has on the table. It’s a bargaining chip to be used in talks with any other team.

CORRECTION

I find it interesting that Lee has NOT declined Arbitration yet, maybe it is
not so cut and dried that he does not want to play in Pittsburgh next
year!

Barajas should be a lateral move from Snyder, Barajas will hit for as much power, similiar BA and he will handle pitchers as well, but Barmes has more power than Cedano and is more reliable on defense, both moves upgrade the team.
The Pirates were in first place in July last year because of their defense and pitching, no way do you sell the value of pitching and defense short.

There is no way that I would give Hanrahan away, I would add to him and give him the 8th inning help they need, pitching and defense are impact to me. If nothing else they still have Jones and they have Hague although I would rather have Lee or Pena.
