I had a one-on-one talk with Huntington during Piratefest on Saturday and he specifically told me that he was been in contact with the Mets and Mariners on acquiring one of those three (he specifically mentioned Smoak, Carp, and Duda to me). also, he mentioned that he still has not ruled out acquiring one of the three via trade and is still having discussions with the Mets and Mariners. I also asked him about a possibility of bringing in Joe Saunders with him not being tendered by the DBacks in the aftermath of the DBacks getting Cahill. he said to me that right now he views Saunders and Bedard as the same type of pitcher and them getting Bedard for cheaper than what Saunders

Unless Nutting sells the team to an owner who wants to win… who puts winning over profits and has the money to spend, look for another 20 years of consecutive below .500 ball.

The current roster is not going to come close to finishing over 500 unless everything breaks the team’s way.

Today’s paper reported that ticket sales have gone up, so the only reason not to bring in more talent is that NH can’t find a trading partner that is a good match.  Seems to me that there should be chips available that would not impact the long term future of team.  I would rather deal Pressley than Marte but think Marte has more value.  So I am willing to part with Marte if there is a good return.  I wonder if the Bucs talked to Endy Chavez?  He signed for McLouth money and is more of a sure thing as 4th outfielder.

If Charlie mentioned those other guys, it may have been in a side conversation.

And yes…I do see the Pirates going for another SP.

If I’m trading with CWS I want Alexei Ramirez bad. Barmes fits in perfect as a super utility and I’m pretty sure Ramirez is under contract for at least next 3 seasons

Anymore on these comments?  Also do you see us looking for another SP?

He was a good bat this year, when healthy. But the awful defense and the McHenry thing make even Jaramillo a better option at catcher. Barajas is a better option than this years catching situation. Barajas>2011Catchers

And yes, yearly I drink the Kool-Aid.
